EU AI Act: What E-Commerce Stores Need to Know

The world's first comprehensive AI regulation takes effect for high-risk systems in August 2026.

The AI Law That Changes E-Commerce

The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689) is the most significant AI legislation ever enacted. The provisions that affect everyday e-commerce are the transparency requirements under Article 50.

These requirements are not optional. If your Shopify store uses a chatbot, if your WooCommerce product descriptions were written with ChatGPT — you should ensure compliance.

Maximum penalty: €35 million or 7% of global turnover

This exceeds GDPR's maximum fine by €15 million and 3 percentage points.
